Morgen erreichen mich "Intimacy" und "Something to tell" und ich freue mich riesig.

Hat hier sonst jemand auch eine Vorliebe für ihn?

Ein wunderbarer Autor, ich hatte bisher leider nur Zeit den "Buddha aus der Vorstadt" zu lesen.

Den Buddah habe ich auch gelesen und fand ihn richtig gut! Aber das ist ewig lange her.
Worum geht es denn in den beiden o.g. Büchern?

Der Buddha wurde ebenfalls voller Begeisterung von mir gelesen und jetzt war ich am Überlegen, ob ich sein neuestes Werk käuflich erwerben soll...
Nur leider waren die bisherigen Kritiken eher durchwachsen, nun ja, vielleicht bekomme ich es ja mal geschenkt!

"Intimacy gives us the thoughts and memories of a middle-aged writer on the night before he walks out on his wife and two young sons, in favour of a younger woman. A very modern man, without political convictions or religious beliefs, he vaguely hopes to find fulfilment in ***ual love. No-one is spared Kureishi's cold, penetrating gaze or lacerating pen. "She thinks she's feminist, but she's just bad- tempered," he says of his abandoned wife. A male friend advises him, "Marriage is a battle, a terrible journey, a season in hell and a reason for living."

At the heart of the novel is this terrible paradox: "You don't stop loving someone just because you hate them." Male readers will wince with recognition at the narrator's hatred of entrapment and domesticity, and his implacable urge towards freedom, escape, even loneliness. Female readers may find it a truly horrific revelation. Kureishi is only telling it like it is, in staccato sentences of pinpoint accuracy. Ich habe es heute angefangen, musste es aber weglesen, da ich leider nicht die Zeit hatte, es war aber vielversprechend.

"Something to tell" ist sein Neustes und der Protagonist ist ein Psychoanalytiker ... "Jamal is a successful psychoanalyst haunted by his first love and a brutal act of violence from which he can never escape. Looking back to his coming of age in the 1970s forms a vivid backdrop to the drama that develops thirty years later, as he and his friends face an encroaching middle age with the traumas of their youth still unresolved. Like "The Buddha of Suburbia", "Something to Tell You" is full-to-bursting with energy, at times comic, at times painfully tender. With unfailing deftness of touch Kureishi has created a memorable cast of recognisable individuals, all of whom wrestle with their own limits as human beings, haunted by the past until they find it within themselves to forgive."

@yogabella: Buchkritiken interessieren mich nie, dazu ist ein Buch viel zu sehr von seinem Autor geprägt.

Vielen Dank für die Inhaltsangaben! Hören sich ja beide gut an, aber "Something to tell" spricht mich noch ein klitzekleines bißchen mehr an . Vielleicht kannst Du ja mal berichten wie beide so waren, wenn Du magst?
